From the Venetian harbor berths the old town is a 10–15 min walk. From the newer east port, a free port shuttle takes you to the terminal, then it's about a 15–20 min walk (1.5 km) to the city center.
Metered taxis are available just outside the port gate. Fare to the city center from the newer port is typically €10–15; expect a supplement of ~€0.40 per large bag.
Local KTEL/city buses stop just outside the port passenger station. A cheap and easy option to reach the city center or bus station for onward trips around Crete.
