Insider Tips

  • 📅
Book far ahead. Island landing tickets (250/day cap) sell out weeks or months in advance — especially May–July puffin peak. No landings on Mondays.
  • 🥾
Wear grip footwear. The concrete landing slipway, 87-step staircase, and island paths are rough, uneven, and can be wet. Hiking boots or trail shoes only — no sandals or smooth-soled shoes.
  • 🌬️
Layer up regardless of forecast. The Celtic Sea is unpredictable; clifftop wind can be biting even in summer. Pack a windproof/waterproof jacket and a warm hat.
  • 🍱
Bring all food from the ship. There is nothing to buy on the island except water. Pack a full lunch, snacks, and a refillable bottle. Eat only in designated areas (Farm or landing stage) to deter gulls.
  • 🚫
Stay on marked paths. Stepping off the trail crushes puffin burrows underground. No drones, no selfie sticks, no flash photography near birds.
