Getting Ashore

Your ship anchors in Lundy Roads on the east side of the island and tenders passengers to the Beach Jetty slipway — weather permitting.

Getting Ashore

  • 1
Tender to Beach JettyShip's Zodiacs or tenders ferry passengers to the slipway near Landing Bay Beach. The transfer is short but can be choppy — watch your step getting on and off.
  • 2
The Big ClimbFrom the jetty, a gravel track climbs roughly 400 ft (120 m) to the island plateau where the village and pub are. Allow 15–25 minutes. Not wheelchair accessible.
  • 3
Explore on footThe island is entirely car-free with no public transport. All exploring is by foot on grassy tracks and gravel paths.
  • 4
Landing feeA landing fee (~£10–12) applies; most cruise lines include this in the shore excursion fare or ship's account.

💡 Pro move: Landings can be cancelled at short notice due to easterly winds or high swell. The island's east anchorage is sheltered from westerlies but exposed to NE/E winds.

Piers & Tendering by Cruise Line

There is no deep-water pier for cruise ships at Lundy — all landings are by tender to the Beach Jetty slipway.

Insider Tips

  • 🧥
Dress for the Atlantic: Even on sunny days the cliffs and plateau are exposed to strong winds. A windproof, waterproof jacket is essential — not optional.
  • 👟
Sturdy shoes only: The paths are gravel, grass, and mud. Sandals or flip-flops will make the steep jetty climb miserable. Wear hiking shoes or solid trainers.
  • 💷
Bring cash (GBP): The Marisco Tavern and General Store accept cards, but the island's satellite connection drops occasionally. A few pounds in cash keeps you covered.
  • 📵
No mobile signal: Virtually no phone reception anywhere on the island and no public Wi-Fi. Consider it a feature — Lundy is the ultimate digital detox.
  • Watch your all-aboard time: If you hike toward the North Lighthouse (~3 miles from the village), allow at least 2 hours to get back to the jetty. Tendering takes time and ships wait for no one.
