Île-Rousse, Corsica, France

Founded by Corsican patriot Pasquale Paoli, Île-Rousse earns its name from the blazing red porphyry granite of the Pietra islet — a striking contrast to the turquoise sea and white-sand beaches that line the heart of this easygoing resort town.

Pier or tenderShips under ~200 m (Windstar, Ponant, Seabourn, small expedition lines) typically dock at the Jetée d'Orléans commercial pier. Larger ships anchor in the bay and tender passengers to the marina — a quick 10-minute ride.
