Insider Tips

  • Tender logistics: Tender queues can build mid-morning. Come back slightly early if you're doing a long excursion — the last tender time is firm.
  • 🚌
Take the bus: Sifnos has only 10–12 taxis for the whole island. The KTEL bus from Kamares port is frequent, cheap (€2), and air-conditioned — use it instead of waiting for cabs.
  • 💶
Carry cash: Bus fares are cash only. Small bakeries and some pottery workshops are cash-preferred; ATMs are available in Kamares and Apollonia.
  • 👟
Wear sturdy shoes: Kastro, Apollonia, and Artemonas have steep stone cobbles and many steps — sandals or flip-flops will be uncomfortable.
  • 🍲
Eat local: Revithada (chickpea stew) and mastelo (wine-braised lamb) are Sifnos's signature dishes, slow-cooked in traditional clay pots. Tavernas near the Kamares port serve them at lunch.
