One of the Aegean's best-kept secrets, Kythnos rewards visitors with a world-famous double sandbar, healing thermal springs, and whitewashed villages where daily life still moves at its own unhurried pace.
Ships dock at or tender into Merichas, the main port village on Kythnos's west coast — the harbor front is right at your feet.
💡 Pro move: Cash essential — some water taxis and small cafes don't take cards. ATMs available in Merichas and Chora. Tap water is brackish; drink bottled water.
All cruise traffic funnels through Merichas, the island's only commercial port, on the west coast.

Kythnos packs beaches, thermal springs, and medieval villages into a compact island best explored by water taxi, ATV, or rental car.
The island's crown jewel — a 240 m double-sided sandbar of golden sand connecting Kythnos to the islet of Agios Loukas. Turquoise water on both sides. Jump a water taxi from Merichas pier.

Find Kythnos village tours →Dryopida is an inland village with unique tiled (not flat) rooftops — a rarity in the Cyclades. At its edge sits Katafyki Cave, one of Greece's largest, used as a refuge during Ottoman rule and WWII.
Find Kythnos cave tours →Martinakia is a short 10-min walk north of the pier — shaded, sandy, and family-friendly. Apokrousi is a longer sheltered bay excellent on windy days and reachable by rental or taxi.
Find Kythnos beach tours →Merichas and its nearby beach offer an easy stroll; the rest of the island requires wheels.
A gentle flat walk north along the coast from the port to the tamarisk-shaded cove of Martinakia Beach. Great for a quick swim without needing transport.
