Taxis cover the 5–7 km from port to city center in about 10–15 minutes. Not easily hailed from the street — ask port staff to call one or use Uber Taxi app. Cash preferred.
Sakata's local 'Run Run' (るんるんバス) loop bus connects the city center to main attractions at very low cost. A ¥400 day pass is excellent value once you've reached the city center via shuttle or taxi.
The port is industrial and not walkable to the city center (~5–7 km away). Once in the historic center near the Sankyo Warehouses, however, the area is very walkable and compact.
