Insider Tips

  • Tender queues build fast near departure. Budget 30 minutes to queue for the tender back — don't cut your time ashore too close.
  • 🚗
Rent a car for outlying sites. Voidokilia Beach (~12 km) and the Palace of Nestor (~17 km) are both a short drive away. Small agencies are near the main square — book ahead in peak season (June–August).
  • 🌡️
Summer heat is serious. July–August temperatures regularly exceed 35°C. Carry water, wear a hat, and visit Voidokilia before 11 am or after 4 pm to beat the crowds and the peak heat.
  • 🍽️
Lunch on the waterfront. Tavernas along the harbour serve excellent fresh-caught fish and traditional Greek mezze. Prices are lower here than in bigger tourist ports — enjoy a proper sit-down meal.
  • 💶
Cards widely accepted, but carry some cash. Taxis and small kiosks prefer cash. There are ATMs on the main square.
