Insider Tips

  • 👟
Wear sturdy shoes. The castle interior is all rough gravel and polished medieval stone — flip-flops or heels are a bad idea and potentially dangerous.
  • ☀️
There's zero shade in the castle. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and water — especially in summer when temperatures can hit 35°C.
  • 🕐
Castle closes early. The site typically closes around 3:00–3:30 PM. If your ship arrives in the afternoon, head straight to the castle before anything else.
  • 💶
Carry some cash. The castle ticket booth and small souvenir shops may be cash-only. ATM in the village square. Entry fee is modest (approx €4–6).
  • 🚕
Day-trip logistics. Taxis are available at the quay for Voidokilia Beach, Pylos, or Koroni. Agree on the price before you go — no meters. A return taxi to Pylos is typically €25–35.
