Insider Tips

  • 👟
Wear walking shoes. Anything beyond the flat harbor promenade means steep cobblestone streets and steps — flip-flops will punish you.
  • 🚕
Taxis are scarce. If you need one to reach beaches or Porto Ercole, pre-arrange with your ship's excursion desk or book a private driver in advance.
  • 🍲
Try the local dish: Caldaro dell'Argentario — a spicy fisherman's stew. Pair it with a glass of local Ansonica white wine. Restaurants serve lunch 12:30–14:30.
  • 🏖️
Cantoniera beach is free (public section) and reachable on foot in 15–20 min via the tunnels. For chairs/umbrellas, use the beach club for a small fee.
  • ⛴️
Giglio Island ferry only if you have 8+ hours. The 1-hour each-way crossing plus island time means this is a full-day commitment — don't miss your ship.
