Insider Tips

  • ⛴️
Ferry timing is everything. If your ship is based in Cozumel, build in a 2-hour buffer before all-aboard — ferries run hourly and lines get long. Missing the last ferry means missing your ship.
  • 🎫
Buy one-way ferry tickets. Round-trips lock you into one company. With a one-way ticket you can board whichever Ultramar or Winjet ferry departs first on the way back.
  • 🌿
Sargassum watch (May–Oct). Brown seaweed can blanket PDC beaches in summer. Check conditions on arrival — Mamitas and beach clubs are usually cleared early morning.
  • 🌮
Eat at El Fogón. The best tacos al pastor in the Riviera Maya are at this local institution on Av. 30 — cheap, cash-only, and always a line worth waiting in.
  • 🚕
Taxi zone pricing. PDC taxis have no meters. Agree on the price before getting in. Fares from the ferry pier run ~$5 USD to central PDC, $20–25 USD to cenotes. Walking two blocks off the pier gets you lower rates.
