Insider Tips

  • 🪸
Reef-safe sunscreen is mandatory. Chemical sunscreens are banned in the national marine park. Bring biodegradable sunscreen or a UV rash guard — inspectors at the boat will check.
  • 💵
Cash is king. Local vendors, taxi drivers, and snorkel boat captains prefer cash. Both USD and MXN are accepted, but paying in pesos gets you the better rate.
  • 🌿
Sargassum season. From roughly April to August, seaweed can wash onto Riviera Maya beaches. Puerto Morelos cleans its beach daily, but conditions vary — check local reports before planning beach time as your main activity.
  • 🦟
Bug spray for cenotes. Jungle cenotes are beautiful but can have mosquitoes, especially in humid months. Pack a small bottle.
  • Plan your cenote timing. The Cenote Route is 20–30 minutes inland. Budget at least 3–4 hours and leave a comfortable buffer before all-aboard time.
