Percé, Quebec, Canada

A dramatic limestone monolith, a colony of roughly 50,000 nesting pairs of gannets, and some of Canada's best lobster — all packed into one compact Gaspé fishing village. This is one of the Gulf of St. Lawrence's most rewarding stops.

Getting Ashore

All cruise ships tender into Percé — the quay is too small for large vessels. Conditions in the open bay can occasionally cause delays or cancellations.

Getting Ashore

  • 1
Tender to Quai de PercéShip tenders (or Zodiac shuttles on expedition ships) drop you at the Percé wharf, right in the heart of the village. Allow 10-15 minutes each way.
  • 2
Village is immediately walkableThe main street (Route 132 / Rue principale) with restaurants, shops, and tour offices is 2-5 minutes on foot from the tender dock.
  • 3
Book Bonaventure Island earlyBoat tours to Percé Rock and Bonaventure Island depart from the wharf throughout the day. Tickets from Les Bateliers de Percé or Les Croisières Julien Cloutier; no advance reservation typically needed for individuals.

💡 Pro move: Watch ship announcements — open-bay tendering can be suspended in rough weather, and a tender schedule is essential given the island excursion takes 3+ hours.

Insider Tips

  • ⚠️
Do NOT walk to Percé Rock. The sandbar that appears at low tide is strictly off-limits by law — rockfalls occur daily, and the tide returns rapidly. Fines apply.
  • 🧥
Layer up. The Gulf of St. Lawrence is unpredictable — even in July it can be cold and windy, especially on the Bonaventure Island boat. Bring a windproof jacket.
  • Tender conditions matter. Percé is an open bay. High swells can delay or cancel tendering. Check ship announcements before committing to a long island excursion.
  • 🦞
Order the lobster. Gaspé lobster is a regional highlight. La Maison du Pêcheur (next to the wharf) is the most famous spot — arrive early or expect a wait.
  • 💳
Cards accepted everywhere. Canadian dollars; Visa/Mastercard universally accepted. No need to carry much cash.
