Insider Tips

  • 🇫🇷
Bonjour goes a long way. Gaspé is deeply francophone. Service workers speak English, but opening with French earns you a warmer welcome.
  • 🚕
Taxis are very scarce. Don't count on flagging one down — book ahead, rent a car at the airport (15 min taxi from pier), or stick to ship excursions for out-of-town sites.
  • 🌬️
Dress in layers. The Gaspésie is famously windy and the Gulf waters keep temperatures cool. Even August days can feel chilly with a sea breeze — a windbreaker is essential.
  • 🦞
Eat the guédille. Quebec's lobster roll (fresh lobster with light mayo in a toasted bun) is a regional specialty — grab one at a waterfront café before heading back to the ship.
  • 🎟️
Book Percé Rock via ship. It's about an hour each way. Only attempt it independently if your port call is 9+ hours; otherwise a ship excursion guarantees you won't miss departure.
