Getting Ashore

Ships anchor offshore; all passengers reach the island by ship's tender to the Pangi jetty on the western coast.

Getting Ashore

  • 1
Tender to Pangi JettyTenders run from the ship to the Pangi (Londot) jetty. Depending on tide and swell, you may step off into shallow water — wear reef shoes or waterproof sandals.
  • 2
No pier facilitiesThe landing area is a grassy clearing adjacent to the village. There is no cruise terminal, shade structure, or luggage storage. Everything you need comes with you.
  • 3
For the Naghol ceremonyThe tower site is a 10–20 minute uphill walk from the landing on an uneven muddy path. Sturdy closed-toe shoes are essential; the walk is not suitable for those with limited mobility.

💡 Pro move: A new wharf at Melsisi was under construction (groundbreaking Dec 2025) but not expected to be in use for current cruise calls.

Insider Tips

  • 📅
Naghol is seasonal. The land diving only takes place April–June (Saturdays). If your cruise calls outside this window, expect village tours and beach time instead — still worthwhile, but very different.
  • 💵
No ATMs, no card readers. Bring Vanuatu Vatu (VUV) or small clean Australian dollar notes (AUD). Coins and worn notes are unusable — local banks can't exchange them.
  • 👟
Pack two pairs of footwear. Closed-toe shoes or hiking sandals for the trails; reef shoes or waterproof sandals for the tender landing, which may be a wet step onto the beach.
  • 👕
Dress modestly away from the beach. Vanuatu culture is conservative. Cover shoulders and knees when walking through the village. Save swimwear for the beach itself.
  • 🦟
Bring insect repellent. The jungle environment means mosquitoes. High-DEET repellent is strongly recommended, especially for the waterfall and tower trails.
