Insider Tips

  • 💵
Small AUD notes only. Australian dollars are accepted everywhere; Vanuatu Vatu is the official currency but AUD is preferred. Locals cannot change $50 or $100 bills — bring $5, $10, and $20 notes plus coins.
  • 🤿
Bring your own snorkel gear. There are zero rental shops on the island. Pack a mask, snorkel, and fins from the ship if you plan to swim the reef.
  • 👗
Cover up in the village. Vanuatu is a conservative Christian society. Swimwear is fine on the beach, but wear a t-shirt and shorts (or a sarong) when walking through the village or watching cultural performances.
  • 🦟
Insect repellent is essential. The lush jungle paths harbour mosquitoes, especially after rain. Apply repellent before leaving the ship.
  • 🚫
No fresh fruit back onboard. You cannot bring fresh tropical fruit purchased on the island back onto the cruise ship due to quarantine biosecurity laws.
