Getting Ashore

Lipsi's small harbour sits right at the foot of Chora — the moment you step off the tender you're in the middle of village life.

Getting Ashore

  • 1
Tender to the main pierMost cruise ships anchor in Lipsi Bay and run tenders to the concrete quay in Lipsi Harbour. Very small expedition-style ships may berth directly. Check your ship's daily programme for tender schedule.
  • 2
Harbour & Chora on footThe waterfront cafes and tavernas start immediately. For Chora (main village), follow the paved steps uphill — it's a 5–10 min walk with great views back over the harbour.
  • 3
Beaches by bus or taxiA municipal minibus runs to Platis Gialos and Katsadia beaches for about €1.50–2 each way. There are only a couple of taxis on the island; scooter rental is available near the harbour.

💡 Pro move: Lipsi has resisted large-scale development by policy — there is no big cruise terminal or tourist complex. That's the point.

Piers & Tendering by Cruise Line

Lipsi is a tender port for most visiting cruise ships; the main pier is suited to ferries and small vessels only.

Insider Tips

  • 💶
Carry cash. There is one ATM near the harbour but it can run dry on busy call days. Bus, taxis, and small bakeries expect cash.
  • 🚌
Municipal minibus = your friend. A cheap (€1.50–2) local bus runs from the harbour to Platis Gialos and Katsadia beaches in summer. Check the posted schedule at the stop near the port.
  • 🐙
Eat octopus at the harbour. Lipsi tavernas hang fresh octopus on lines to sun-dry before grilling — it's the island's signature dish and worth every cent.
  • 👟
Wear proper footwear. Chora's lanes are cobblestoned with steep steps. Flip-flops are fine for the beach; wear shoes or sturdy sandals for the village.
  • Check tender times early. With only one or two taxis and a small island bus, timing matters. Know your last tender back and build in 30 minutes' buffer.
