Getting Ashore

Kusadasi's cruise terminal sits right on the waterfront, so getting into town is simple — no tender, no long transfer.

Getting Ashore in Kusadasi

  • 1
Walk off the shipAll cruise ships dock at Kusadasi Cruise Port (also called Scala Nuova terminal). The pier gate opens directly onto the waterfront promenade — no shuttle or ferry needed.
  • 2
Into town on footTurn left out of the terminal gate and you're immediately in the bazaar district. The old town, Kervansaray (caravanserai), and seafront are all within 10 minutes on foot.
  • 3
Getting to EphesusEphesus is about 20 km away. Options: ship excursion, shared minibus (dolmuş) from the town center, or a negotiated taxi (round-trip ~$30–50 USD including wait time). The dolmuş is cheap but you'll need to manage timing yourself.
  • 4
Other transfersSirince village (~28 km), Dilek National Park (~25 km), and Pamukkale (~190 km) are reachable by taxi or tour. Pamukkale is a very long day — only feasible on long port calls.

💡 Pro move: The bazaar starts right at the cruise terminal gate. Expect persistent vendors near the dock; a polite 'hayır teşekkürler' (no thank you) works fine.

Piers & Tendering by Cruise Line

Insider Tips

  • 💱
Use Turkish Lira. ATMs are plentiful near the port and in town. Many shops quote prices in euros or dollars but you'll get a worse rate — pay in lira after withdrawing from an ATM.
  • 🌡️
Ephesus gets brutal in summer. June–August midday temperatures hit 35–40°C with no shade on the main marble streets. Start early (port opens early enough), bring water, and wear a hat.
  • 🛍️
Leather goods are the buy here. Kusadasi is famous for leather jackets and bags — quality varies wildly. Shops right at the pier gate are tourist-priced; wander one street back for better deals and bargain hard.
  • 🚕
Agree on taxi fares before you get in. Official port taxis are metered but many will offer flat rates — especially for Ephesus round-trips. $30–50 USD for a round-trip with 2-hr wait is typical.
  • 🍽️
Try the Turkish breakfast or a gözleme. The restaurants one block inland are far better value than those on the tourist strip. Gözleme (stuffed flatbread) stalls near the bazaar are cheap and excellent.
