Insider Tips

  • 🚕
Negotiate taxis before you get in. Agree on a round-trip flat rate (in EUR/USD) including driver wait time for Pergamon — around €40–55 per taxi for a shared group is typical.
  • 💱
ATMs are 5 min from the pier. Turkish Lira gets you better prices at markets and local cafes. Many restaurants accept euros or dollars but at a poor rate.
  • 👟
Wear proper shoes for Pergamon. The Acropolis involves steep ancient stone paths. Sandals are fine for the beach but dangerous on the ruins.
  • 🗓
If you're in port on Tuesday, make the weekly market your first stop — it runs in the morning and is one of the most authentic experiences in town.
  • 🕌
Visiting the mosque: Welcome outside prayer times. Shoulders and knees covered; women bring a scarf for their head. The interior is beautiful and serene.
