Getting Ashore

No cruise ship calls Delos directly — access is always via ferry from Mykonos, the lively Cycladic island just a few kilometres away.

Getting to Delos from Mykonos

  • 1
Arrive at MykonosYour ship either docks at Mykonos New Port (Tourlos) or tenders to the Old Port area. The ferry to Delos departs from Mykonos Old Port (near the windmills).
  • 2
Get to Mykonos Old PortFrom the New Port, take a ship shuttle or water taxi to Mykonos Town (10 min, ~€2). From the Old Port tender dock, it's a short walk along the waterfront.
  • 3
Buy a ferry ticketTickets (round-trip ~€25 pp) are sold at the kiosk near the Old Port embarkation point, at tourist shops, or online via Delos Tours. Ferries run roughly 9:00 AM–3:00 PM, with the last return at ~7:00 PM in summer.
  • 4
Allow time to get backThe site closes at 3:30 PM (check current hours). Miss the last ferry and you're stranded — there are no accommodations or overnight permits on Delos.

💡 Pro move: Ship excursions bundling Mykonos + Delos handle logistics for you and guarantee you make it back. Worth considering if your Mykonos call is short.

Insider Tips

  • 🎒
Bring everything you need. There is one small snack kiosk on-site (often crowded, limited stock). No restaurants, no supermarkets, no ATMs. Pack water (1.5L+ per person), snacks, a hat, and high-SPF sunscreen before leaving the ship.
  • Watch your ferry time obsessively. The last ferry back to Mykonos typically departs around 7:00 PM in summer (3:00 PM in shoulder season). Missing it means no way off the island — overnight stays are illegal.
  • 👟
Wear proper shoes. The entire site is ancient marble and uneven stone. Flip-flops or sandals are a sprained ankle waiting to happen. Closed-toe shoes with grip are essential.
  • 🌬️
Wind is intense. Delos is an exposed Cycladic island with near-constant meltemi wind in summer. A hat with a chin strap is practical — loose hats blow away. Carry a light layer for the return ferry.
  • 📱
Download an audio guide before leaving the ship. On-site signage is sparse. The Rick Steves app or PocketGuide Delos audio tour adds enormous context with no extra cost.

⛵ Ferry from Mykonos Old Port

~€25 round trip (+ €20 site entry)

The standard way to reach Delos. Ferries depart from Mykonos Old Port (not the cruise pier) and take 30–40 minutes each way. Book in advance during peak season.

🚤 Water Taxi (SeaBus) to Mykonos Old Port

~€2/person

If your cruise docks at Mykonos New Port (Tourlos), a SeaBus water taxi takes ~10 minutes to Mykonos harbor where Delos ferries depart.

🚌 Bus to Mykonos Old Port

~€1.80/person

KTEL buses run frequently from the Mykonos cruise pier gate to Mykonos Town. Budget option to reach the Delos ferry departure point.

🏛️ Guided Shore Excursion

€79–€100/person

Full guided tour including round-trip ferry, site entrance, and a certified archaeologist guide. Often the easiest option for cruise passengers — some include transfers from the cruise pier.

🚶 On Foot (on island)

Free
