Getting Ashore

Zingst is a small-ship destination — only river and coastal cruise vessels call here. Ships tie up at the Zingster Strom harbour on the calm Bodden (lagoon) side of the peninsula.

Getting Ashore in Zingst

  • 1
Step off the pierShips dock directly alongside the Zingster Strom harbour quay — no tender required. The pier is flat and fully accessible.
  • 2
Walk to the pedestrian zoneStrandstraße, the main pedestrian street, is a short 5-minute walk (about 400 m) from the pier. Everything in town is flat and easy on foot.
  • 3
Reach the Baltic Sea beachContinue straight along Strandstraße for about 1.2 km to reach the dunes, promenade, and Seebrücke (sea pier) on the open Baltic side — roughly 15–20 minutes at a comfortable pace.

Insider Tips

  • 💶
Carry cash. Smaller bakeries, ice cream stands, Strandkorb rentals, and some bike shops in Zingst are cash-only. ATMs are available in town but can be busy when ships are in.
  • 🚴
Rent a bike early. Two-wheelers are the best way to explore the national park. Several rental shops cluster near the harbour; expect ~€8–€15/day for a standard bike.
  • 🏖
Know the beach zones. The Baltic beach is divided into Textile (swimsuit), FKK (nudist), and dog-friendly sections — signs at each dune access point mark the boundaries.
  • 🌬
Layer up. Even on sunny summer days the Ostseewind (Baltic Sea breeze) cuts through. A windbreaker makes the dune walk and pier visit far more comfortable.
  • 🍊
Try Sanddorn. Sea buckthorn (Sanddorn) berries grow wild on the dunes and turn up in cakes, ice cream, hot grog, and juice at almost every café — a regional speciality worth trying.
