Getting Ashore in Ullapool

  • 1
Tender from shipThe ship anchors in Loch Broom. Tender boats run continuously; the ride takes 10-15 minutes. Check ship's Daily Programme for tender ticket times.
  • 2
Arrive at Harbour PontoonThe dedicated cruise pavilion at the pontoon has seating, maps, local information, and staff to help orient you. Shore Street (the main drag) is a 1-minute walk.
  • 3

💡 Pro move: Swell in the loch can occasionally affect tender operations. Those with limited mobility should check with guest services about tender accessibility.

Insider Tips

  • 🌧️
Pack a waterproof jacket. Highland weather is notoriously changeable — sunshine, wind, and rain can all happen within an hour. Layers are essential even in summer.
  • 🦟
Beware midges June–September. If the air is still and damp, Highland midges appear in clouds. Pick up 'Smidge' or 'Avon Skin So Soft' at the local pharmacy — both work better than standard DEET.
  • 🦞
Eat the seafood. The Seafood Shack on the waterfront is deservedly famous — langoustines and scallops caught that morning. Arrive early as portions sell out.
  • 🚕
Book transport in advance. If you want to visit Corrieshalloch Gorge, Ardmair Beach, or further afield, taxis and private hire are extremely limited. Book months ahead or take a ship excursion.
  • 💳
Cards accepted everywhere. Contactless/Apple Pay works in virtually all shops, pubs, and the museum. You rarely need cash.
