Insider Tips

  • 💳
Sweden is cashless. Most cafes, shops, and even buses refuse cash. Bring a contactless Visa or Mastercard — you'll need it for everything.
  • 🚌
Confirm shuttle times early. Tunadal Port cannot be walked. Check the last shuttle back on the ship before heading off — missing it means a taxi (~200 SEK).
  • ☀️
Summer days are long. In June–July, Sundsvall has nearly 20 hours of daylight — don't be fooled by the light when watching your return time.
  • 🍕
Try Västerbottenpaj. A savory tart made from Västerbotten cheese — a sharp northern Swedish specialty. Found in most cafes and impossible to get outside Sweden.
  • 🐉
Hunt the dragons. In summer, painted dragon sculptures appear across the city as part of Drakparaden. Hunting them with kids (or without) makes for a fun self-guided tour.
