Insider Tips

  • 💶
Euros everywhere. Croatia adopted the euro in 2023. Cards accepted at restaurants and the arboretum; bring a little cash for beach chairs, taxis, and local market stalls.
  • 👟
Pack water shoes. Every beach in Slano is pebble. Aqua shoes make entry into the water dramatically more comfortable.
  • 🚕
Negotiate taxis upfront. Taxis don't use meters here. Agree on a price before you get in. Ston round-trip with wait: ~€50–70. Dubrovnik one-way: ~€30–40.
  • 🦪
Don't skip Ston's oysters. Mali Ston oysters are pulled from the bay daily and often eaten the same day. A boat tasting with local white wine is one of the best food experiences on the Croatian coast.
  • 🏖️
Skip Dubrovnik if you've already been. Slano offers the peaceful Adriatic experience without the summer crowds. The bay swimming is exceptional and completely unhurried.
