Insider Tips

  • 💶
Euros everywhere. Croatia adopted the euro in 2023. Cards widely accepted, but keep €10-20 cash for museum entries and small bakeries.
  • 🍷
Drink Škrlet. This indigenous white wine is grown only in the Moslavina region around Sisak — you won't easily find it elsewhere. Order it at any riverside restaurant.
  • 🦩
Stork season matters. Lonjsko Polje's stork village (Čigoč) is spectacular May–August. Outside that window, the wetland is still beautiful but the storks are gone.
  • 🚂
Zagreb is easy. The train station is a 10-minute walk from the pier, with regular services to Zagreb (~1 hr). Taxis are faster (~45 min) if your ship's schedule is tight.
  • ☀️
Summers are hot and humid. Sisak sits inland — no sea breeze. July/August highs hit 30–34°C. Carry water and start early if walking to the fortress.
