Insider Tips

  • 🌊
Weather rules everything. Shore landings can be cancelled or cut short by swells — this is non-negotiable. Have a flexible mindset and pack layers.
  • 🐴
No touching the horses. Parks Canada strictly enforces a hands-off policy. Stay at least 20 metres away. Fines apply.
  • 👟
Waterproof footwear is essential. Zodiac landings are wet. Wellies or waterproof hiking boots with good ankle support for soft sand are ideal.
  • 📡
No cell service. There is no mobile signal on Sable Island. Download offline maps and any information you need before departure.
  • 🧴
No facilities. No toilets (except at the Parks Canada station by permission), no food, no water, no shelter. Your expedition ship is your base.
