Insider Tips

  • 💵
Carry pesos in cash. Many beach palapas, taxis, and market vendors do not accept cards or USD. ATMs are available on El Adoquín.
  • 🌊
Respect the beach flags. Red flag = no swimming. Zicatela has some of the strongest rip currents in Mexico — it's for watching, not swimming.
  • 🕐
Check your time zone. Puerto Escondido runs on Central Standard Time (UTC-6) and does not observe Daylight Saving Time. Verify local time vs. ship time to make your tender back.
  • 🚕
Agree on taxi fares before you get in. No meters — standard town fares are $50–100 MXN ($3–6 USD). Uber does not operate here.
  • 🦺
This is a small expedition port. There is no cruise terminal, air conditioning, or tourist infrastructure at the pier. Bring cash, sunscreen, and water.
