Getting Ashore

Ships anchor offshore and tender passengers directly into Portrush Harbour — the tender ride takes 10–15 minutes and is included in your cruise.

Getting Ashore in Portrush

  • 1
Tender to Portrush HarbourTenders drop at the harbour pontoon near Ramore Head. The ride is 10–15 minutes; check ship's schedule and last-tender time carefully — this is a remote port with no late exceptions.
  • 2
Town center — 5 minutes on footWalk straight off the pier up the gentle slope to Main Street. Everything in town is within a 10-minute walk.
  • 3
Onward to Giant's Causeway or BushmillsTake the Causeway Rambler bus (402) from the town center — runs regularly in summer to Dunluce Castle, Bushmills, and Giant's Causeway. Alternatively, pre-book a taxi (scarce, book weeks ahead). Train to Coleraine/Derry from Portrush station (5-min walk) is another option.

💡 Pro move: Tender operations are weather-dependent. If seas are rough, tenders may be suspended — check ship announcements.

Insider Tips

  • Last tender is firm. Portrush is a tender port with no flexibility for late passengers. Note your ship's last return tender time and work back — missing it means finding your own transport to the next port.
  • 🚌
Pre-book taxis or use the bus. Taxis in Portrush are limited; book weeks in advance if you want a private driver. The Causeway Rambler bus (402) is reliable, cheap, and runs all day in summer.
  • 🌧️
Pack a waterproof layer. The North Antrim coast can serve four seasons in one day. A compact rain jacket is essential even in summer.
  • 💷
British Pounds only. Northern Ireland uses GBP — euros are not accepted here (unlike the Republic of Ireland). Card payments are widely accepted in town.
  • 🎟️
Giant's Causeway: coastal path is free. The basalt columns are accessible on foot via the coastal trail at no charge. The visitor centre has a fee but isn't required to see the site.
