Getting Ashore

Pesaro is a tender port for most cruise ships — the harbor is shallow (3–5m), so larger vessels anchor offshore and run tenders to Calata Caio Duilio inside the port basin.

Insider Tips

  • Riposo shuts things down 1–4 PM. Museums, smaller churches, and many shops close for the Italian afternoon break. Plan cultural visits for the morning and save the afternoon for lunch or the beach.
  • 🍕
Try Pizza Rossini. Pesaro's most famous (and polarizing) local dish: a Margherita topped with sliced hard-boiled eggs and mayonnaise. Beloved by locals, baffling to outsiders — worth trying at least once.
  • 🚴
Rent a bike. Pesaro's 'Bicipolitana' is a color-coded subway-style network of bike paths covering the whole city. E-bikes and regular bikes are available near the port and beach. It's the best way to get around.
  • 🐟
Eat seafood at the port. The Porto Canale restaurant strip serves some of the freshest catch on the Adriatic — brodetto alla pesarese (local fish stew) and grilled whole fish are the standouts.
  • 💶
Carry some cash. Cards are widely accepted in restaurants and museums, but small bars, beach clubs, and market stalls often prefer euros in hand.
