Nature

The Caves Snorkel (Treasure Point)

Three semi-submerged sea caves cut into the cliffs at the western edge of The Bight. Swim inside to find orange cup coral, red sponges, schools of glassy sweepers, yellowtail snapper, and the occasional sea turtle. The interior glows an ethereal turquoise when sunlight angles through.

The Indians Snorkel & Dive

Four jagged rock pinnacles off Pelican Island, just northwest of Norman Island, rise from the seabed and plunge to about 40 feet, creating dramatic underwater walls draped in coral gardens, sea fans, parrotfish, blue tangs, and eagle rays. Widely rated one of the top shallow dive/snorkel sites in the entire BVI.

Insider Tips

  • No pier, ever. Norman Island has no permanent cruise infrastructure. All access is by tender or excursion boat — confirm your ship's schedule before swimming off toward the caves.
  • 🤿
Bring your own snorkel gear if possible. There are no rental shops on the island; excursion boats often supply gear but quality varies.
  • 🧴
Use reef-safe sunscreen only. The BVI actively enforces this to protect coral reefs — chemical sunscreens are strongly discouraged and may be banned on some charters.
  • 💵
USD cash only for tips and kayak rentals. Pirates Bight and Willy T take credit cards, but bring small bills for boat crews.
  • 📱
Cell service is spotty in The Bight. You may pick up USVI towers from nearby St. John, which can save roaming charges for US plan holders.
