Insider Tips

  • 💵
Cash in small USD or EGP. US dollars and euros are accepted at tour desks, taxis, and most shops. ATMs at the marina dispense EGP. Carry small bills — change is often scarce.
  • 🌡️
It is hot. Summer temperatures exceed 40°C (104°F). Start excursions early, carry water, and wear sun protection. Even in winter, midday sun is intense.
  • 🪸
Wear reef shoes in the water. Most shorelines have sharp coral and the risk of stonefish. Sandals or bare feet are not safe. Bring your own or rent at Abu Dabbab.
  • ☀️
Use reef-safe sunscreen. Egypt actively enforces marine conservation — chemical sunscreens that harm coral are discouraged. Mineral-based SPF 50 is the safe choice.
  • 🚕
Negotiate taxi fares before you get in. Ask port security or cruise staff for a fair going rate to your destination. Pre-agree on currency (USD or EGP) to avoid confusion on return.
