Insider Tips

  • 🚆
Train beats taxi for Florence: Trenitalia from Livorno Centrale is far cheaper than a taxi (€10–15 return) and nearly as fast. Buy tickets at the station or online.
  • 📅
Book the Uffizi before you sail: The Uffizi sells out weeks in advance in summer. Reserve timed entry at uffizi.it or you may not get in.
  • 🐟
Eat in Livorno if you stay: The city is known for cacciucco (rich Tuscan fish stew) and fried seafood from the market. Far cheaper and more authentic than tourist restaurants in Pisa.
  • 💶
ATMs at the port gate: Use a bank ATM rather than currency-exchange kiosks. Visa/Mastercard accepted almost everywhere in the city and at train stations.
  • Florence takes a full day — plan accordingly: With travel time, you'll have 4–5 hours in the city. Prioritize: pick ONE major museum or plan a walking-only day.
