Insider Tips

  • 📅
Check your docking day. Libourne's famous market runs Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday mornings. If you're docked on Monday or Wednesday, most shops may be closed — lean on ship excursions.
  • 🚂
Train to Saint-Émilion is easy — but the station there is at the bottom of the hill, 20 min steep walk up to the village. Pre-book a taxi or take the ship's excursion if mobility is a concern.
  • 💶
Bring some cash. Market vendors and small wineries often prefer euros. ATMs are available on the main square.
  • 🍷
Pomerol starts at the edge of town. You can walk or take a 5-minute taxi to reach world-class wine estates without a formal tour.
  • 🌊
Ask your cruise director about Le Mascaret. If you're docked June–October during a high tide, the tidal bore wave on the Dordogne is a rare natural spectacle worth staying up for.
