Insider Tips

  • 💶
Euros only. US dollars are rarely accepted. Bring cash for taxis, the local market, and beach vendors — card acceptance is good at marina restaurants but patchy elsewhere.
  • 🚕
Agree on the taxi fare before you get in. Taxis are regulated but not metered; fix the price upfront. Round trips to Salines typically run €25-40 for up to 4 passengers.
  • 🏖️
Rent a car if you want the beaches. Jumbo Car and Hertz have kiosks at the marina. Book in advance — stock is limited on ship days. You'll need a full license and they drive on the right.
  • 🗣️
English is limited outside the marina. A few French phrases go a long way: Bonjour (hello), merci (thank you), l'addition s'il vous plaît (the bill please). Download Google Translate offline.
  • 📅
Sunday closures. Martinique observes French Sunday laws — most shops and the supermarket will be closed. Marina restaurants and beach bars stay open.
