Maui's West Shore is open for business — the resort beaches of Kaanapali and Kapalua shine as brightly as ever, even as historic Lahaina town rebuilds from the 2023 wildfire.
Ships dock at Kahului Harbor on Maui's north shore — you'll need transport to reach the beaches and resorts of West Maui.
💡 Pro move: Allow at least 2.5–3 hours to return from West Maui to the Kahului pier. The single-lane highway can back up badly; accidents or brush fires cause major delays.
All cruise ships call at Kahului Harbor — Lahaina's own harbor was destroyed in 2023 and is undergoing long-term reconstruction.

A paved oceanfront path runs the length of Kaanapali Beach, threading between the sand and the resort towers. Walk north from Whalers Village to Black Rock (Pu'u Keka'a) for excellent snorkeling at the point. Sunset brings a free torch-lighting and cliff-dive ceremony at the Sheraton.

Transport options from the pier — taxis, shuttles, transit passes, and whether ride-share apps work here.
Lahaina is a tender port — the ship anchors offshore and free tenders bring you directly to the Lahaina small boat harbor, steps from Front Street. No additional transport needed to reach the waterfront area.
The tender landing puts you right in the heart of Lahaina. Note: much of historic Front Street remains closed as of 2025 due to the devastating August 2023 wildfires; check current access conditions before visiting.
Rideshares are available in West Maui for trips to Ka'anapali Beach, Kaanapali, or other nearby areas. Request from the tender landing area; wait times can vary.
Local taxis (e.g. West Maui Taxi) are available for point-to-point trips around West Maui. Useful if rideshare availability is limited; fares increase with distance.
The county Maui Bus serves West Maui with fixed routes. Free for seniors 55+ and Medicare cardholders; otherwise a nominal fare. Schedules are limited — check mauicounty.gov before relying on it.
