Insider Tips

  • Confirm tender status before you go ashore. Most ships anchor and tender to Molo Caboto — check ship's daily program for tender timing and last tender back.
  • 🕐
Riposo shuts things down 13:30–16:30. Gaeta is genuinely local — bakeries, shops, and some churches close midday. Hit Via Indipendenza in the morning for tiella while it's fresh.
  • 💶
Carry cash. Small bakeries and beach stalls on Via Indipendenza often don't accept cards. ATMs are available near the old town.
  • 👟
Wear proper shoes. The Split Mountain and old town are cobbled and steep. Flip-flops are fine for Serapo Beach but not for climbing.
  • 🍕
Eat tiella, not pizza. Gaeta has its own food identity — the stuffed savory pie is the thing to try. Octopus & Gaeta olive is the classic. Buy from a bakery on Via Indipendenza.
