Getting Ashore

Cádiz is a superb walk-off port — the cruise terminal sits right beside the old town, so you step off into a maze of squares, the cathedral, and sea walls within minutes.

Into ancient Cádiz

  • 1
Cádiz cruise terminalThe port is on the edge of the old town; it's a 5-minute walk to Plaza San Juan de Dios and the historic center — no shuttle needed.
  • 2
Walking the old townThe compact old quarter — cathedral, Torre Tavira, the market, and the sea-wall promenades — is entirely walkable and flat.
  • 3
Train to Seville or JerezCádiz station is near the port; trains reach Jerez (~40 min, sherry and horses) and Seville (~1h40) for a famous Andalusian day trip.

💡 Pro move: Cádiz itself is lovely and very walkable, but many cruisers day-trip to Seville for the cathedral and Alcázar. Decide early — Seville is rewarding but a long round trip.

Insider Tips

  • 🚆
Decide Seville early. It's an 8+ hour round trip — magnificent, but it eats the whole day. Jerez is a closer, lighter Andalusian alternative.
  • 🚶
Cádiz rewards wandering. One of Europe's oldest cities is compact and walkable from the ship — easy to DIY with no tour.
  • 🍤
Eat the fried fish. Cádiz invented pescaíto frito — grab a paper cone of fresh fried seafood from a freiduría in the old town.
  • 💶
Cards work, carry a little cash. Spain is card-friendly, but small tapas bars and market stalls appreciate euros.
  • ☀️
Bring sun protection. Cádiz is bright and exposed on its Atlantic peninsula — hat, sunscreen, and water for a day of old-town walking.
