Insider Tips

  • 💵
USD works everywhere near the port — taxis, bars, shops all accept it at roughly 2 BBD = $1 USD. Grab a little local cash only if heading to street markets.
  • 🐢
Book turtle snorkel early — independent operators on the dock and at Carlisle Bay Beach fill up fast on busy ship days. A walk-in deal is usually cheaper than the ship's excursion.
  • 🌤️
East coast = rougher surf. Bathsheba is spectacular for photos, but swimming is unsafe. Stick to the sheltered west and south coasts (Carlisle, Accra, Crane) for swimming.
  • 🚕
Negotiate before you get in — Barbados taxis are not metered. Agree on a price up front. The government posts recommended rates; ask the tourism desk at the terminal.
  • 🍹
Try a rum punch at a local bar — not the ship's version. Cheapest and most authentic at Baxter's Road street stalls or the Pelican Craft Centre near the port.
