Insider Tips

  • 👟
Wear walking shoes. Both Yorktown and Colonial Williamsburg have uneven brick, gravel, and cobblestone paths. Skip the heels.
  • 🌡️
Virginia summers are brutal. June–September bring heat and high humidity. Bring a refillable water bottle, hat, and sunscreen. Spring (April–May) and fall (October–November) are ideal.
  • Watch the clock in Williamsburg. Traffic on the Colonial Parkway and US-60 can back up by 4 PM. Leave Williamsburg at least 1.5 hours before your ship's all-aboard time.
  • 🎟️
Colonial Williamsburg streets are free; buildings cost. A day pass covers all historic interiors. If your cruise excursion includes admission, confirm what's covered before buying separately at the gate.
  • 🚃
Use the free trolley. The Yorktown Trolley runs seasonally (March–November) from Riverwalk Landing to the Battlefield and Main Street — no need to climb the bluff on foot.
