Getting Ashore in Yarmouth

  • 1
Docking at Lobster Rock TerminalThe majority of cruise ships tie up at the Lobster Rock Marine Terminal. Gangway angles can shift through the day with Yarmouth's sizable Bay of Fundy–entrance tides — crew assist at the gangway.
  • 2
Into TownWater Street runs right along the harbor — the town center is a flat 3–5 min walk. Main Street shops and dining are a further 5 min uphill.
  • 3

Insider Tips

  • 🌫️
Dress in layers. Yarmouth earns its 'Foggy End of Nova Scotia' nickname — sunny and 20°C can turn damp and cool in 20 minutes. A packable rain jacket is essential.
  • 💵
USD accepted, CAD preferred. Most shops take US dollars but give change in Canadian coins. An ATM near the pier is convenient for Canadian cash.
  • 🦞
Order the creamed lobster. This is a hyper-local Southwest Nova dish — fresh lobster in butter and cream over toast. You won't find it on most cruise ships. Rudder's on Water Street is a 3-min walk from the pier.
  • 🚕
Book taxis in advance for Cape Forchu. There's no ride-share in Yarmouth. Local taxis fill up fast on cruise days. If Cape Forchu is your priority, reserve before arrival or book a ship excursion.
  • 🌊
Watch the gangway angles. Yarmouth sits at the entrance to the Bay of Fundy and sees a substantial tidal swing (roughly 12–15 ft). The gangway slope changes noticeably over the day — crew are always stationed to assist.
