Insider Tips

  • 🌬️
Layer up. Zeeland is famous for wind — even a sunny June day on the boulevard can feel cold. A light windbreaker is essential.
  • 🚂
Don't skip Middelburg. If Vlissingen feels small, the 10-minute train ride to Middelburg adds a full medieval Dutch canal city to your day. Trains run every 30 minutes; buy at the machine with a card.
  • 🐚
Eat Zeeland mussels. Zeeuwse mosselen (steamed in white wine and vegetables) are a regional icon. Also try kibbeling (battered fried fish) from stalls around Bellamypark, and a Zeeuwse bolus pastry with coffee.
  • 💳
Go cashless. The Netherlands is one of Europe's most card-friendly countries. Visa/Mastercard accepted everywhere; many places prefer card over cash.
  • 🚢
Check your berth beforehand. If your ship is large enough to use Sloehaven, you'll need the cruise line shuttle — it's not walkable. Your daily programme will confirm the dock.
