Layer up aggressively. Even if it's 60°F in Juneau, the glacier creates a refrigerator effect — expect 35°F with wind chill on deck. Windproof shell, fleece, beanie, and gloves are essential.

Wake up early. Ships typically enter the fjord narrows between 6–8 AM. The entrance canyon is the most dramatic part — don't sleep through it.

Bring binoculars. Non-negotiable for spotting mountain goats on sheer cliff faces, seal pups on icebergs 200 yards away, and the deep blue crevasses in the glacier.
