Insider Tips

  • ☀️
Dress for the tropics: It's hot and humid year-round (around 30°C/86°F). Light clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and high-SPF sunscreen are essential.
  • 🐊
Do not swim: The waters around TI are home to saltwater crocodiles and deadly box jellyfish. Admire the beach scenery from the shore only.
  • 🏪
Sunday closures: If your ship calls on a Sunday, most shops and the Cultural Centre will be shut. The Grand and Torres hotels usually remain open for cruise passengers.
  • 💵
Cash is handy: AUD is the currency. Cards are accepted at pubs and the Cultural Centre, but carry some cash for souvenir stalls and smaller vendors.
  • 📱
Telstra only: Telstra is the dominant mobile network. Optus and Vodafone users may find limited or no coverage on the island.
