Insider Tips

  • 🚕
Taxis wait at the port gate — negotiate a price upfront for Hamsilos fjord (~₺300-400 round-trip with wait) or ask them to use the meter for shorter trips like Karakum Beach.
  • 🍜
Eat Sinop mantısı — it's nothing like standard Turkish mantı. Try Teyzenin Yeri or Örnek Mantı, both a short walk from the harbor. Order the half-and-half plate.
  • 🛍️
Kotra wooden model ships are Sinop's most distinctive souvenir — handmade sailboat carvings, a craft born in the prison workshops. Best selection at the Pervane Medresesi bazaar.
  • 💱
Turkish lira is king at small stalls, bakeries, and taxis. ATMs are just outside the port gate. Most sit-down restaurants accept cards.
  • 🌊
Black Sea is cooler than the Med — comfortable for swimming June–September. Karakum Beach (3 km) is the closest and most popular option.
