Getting Ashore in Shimizu
1 Walk off the ship Hinode Pier is a dedicated cruise berth — no tender. Walk straight down the gangway onto the waterfront boardwalk.
2 Collect maps at the terminal Volunteer greeters at the terminal offer free English maps and answer questions; free Wi-Fi is available inside the Hinode Marine Terminal.
3 Reach Shimizu Station Walk 25-30 min (2 km) or take a cruise-line shuttle (often free or low-cost) or taxi (~10 min, ¥1,000). The water bus from Hinode to Ejiri Port near the station is scenic and inexpensive.
4 Check Mt. Fuji visibility Before committing to a Nihondaira trip, check the live webcam boards in the terminal. Fuji is clearest in the morning and often cloud-covered by midday.

💡 Add a tip
🗻 Check Fuji first. The mountain hides behind clouds most afternoons. Look for the live-cam boards at the terminal on arrival — if it's clear, head to Nihondaira or Miho Beach immediately.
💴 Bring cash in yen. Japan is still cash-heavy for buses, small shrines, and street food. A 7-Eleven ATM near the pier accepts foreign cards.
🐟 Eat the tuna. Shimizu lands the most bluefin tuna in Japan — a maguro-don at the fish market is a must. Note the Kashi no Ichi market is closed Wednesdays ; use Sushi Alley in S-Pulse instead.
🚢 Take the water bus to Miho. The ferry from Hinode Pier to the Miho Peninsula is faster and cheaper than the road bus, with great views of Mt. Fuji from the water.
⏱ Skip Lake Kawaguchi unless you have 10+ hours. The round trip is long and eats your day. Nihondaira gives equally stunning Fuji views in a fraction of the time.

S-Pulse Dream Plaza (adjacent to Hinode Pier) runs a free shuttle bus to JR Shimizu Station. Many cruise lines also offer complimentary shuttles to the station, with journey times of 7–25 minutes.
🚕 Taxi to JR Shimizu Station ¥1,400–¥1,800
Taxis are available outside the pier and take about 2–5 minutes to JR Shimizu Station. Metered fares; the GO app can be used to book local taxis.
🚕 Taxi to Shizuoka City Center ¥5,000–¥6,500
Taxis to Shizuoka Station (the broader city center) take approximately 25–30 minutes and cost in the ¥5,000–¥6,500 range.

Uber operates in Shimizu and connects riders with local licensed taxis via the app. Useful for English-speaking travelers who want upfront pricing.

The Shimizu Water Bus connects Hinode Pier to Shimizu Fish Market, JR Shimizu Station area, and the Miho Peninsula. The Hinode–Miho single fare is ¥800; a return (Mini-Cruise) ticket is ¥1,000.
