Insider Tips

  • 🌦️
Pack a layer for Garajonay. The port is warm and sunny; the UNESCO forest 30 minutes inland is cool, misty, and often 10°C colder. A light rain jacket changes everything.
  • 🚗
Book car rental before you sail. Cicar and Plus Car have desks inside the ferry terminal but the fleets are tiny. Book online months in advance or you'll be queuing for a taxi.
  • 🧀
Try almogrote. This Gomera-only spiced goat cheese paste is spread on bread and sold everywhere on Calle Real. Pick up a jar to take home.
  • Siesta is real here. Smaller shops may close 13:30–16:30. Restaurants and souvenir shops on Calle Real typically stay open.
  • 💶
Cash for villages. Card payment is fine in town and restaurants, but mountain villages and roadside stalls are cash-only. Stock up at ATMs near the ferry terminal.
