Getting Ashore

How you arrive depends on ship size — most cruise vessels dock at the deep-water Port de Bloscon and run shuttles, while some smaller ships tender directly into the old port.

Getting Ashore in Roscoff

  • 1
Docked at Port de BlosconMost cruise ships use the deep-water Bloscon terminal. The town center is a flat ~2 km (15–25 min) coastal walk, or take a cruise-line shuttle or the seasonal Rosko Bus. Taxis are usually available at the pier (about 6 min, ~€6–8).
  • 2
Tender to Vieux PortSome smaller and expedition ships anchor in the bay and tender passengers directly to the quayside at the Vieux Port (Old Port). You step off in the center of town — cafes and the church are steps away.
  • 3
On foot in townThe old town is compact and entirely walkable. The Vieux Port, church, museum, and Exotic Garden are all within easy reach on foot.

💡 Pro move: Brittany's tidal range is dramatic — the harbor can look completely dry at low tide. Ships and tenders time arrivals around the tide; this is perfectly normal.

Insider Tips

  • 🌊
Tides are dramatic: Brittany has one of Europe's highest tidal ranges. At low tide, boats sit on sand and the harbor looks dry — completely normal. Tender schedules are built around tides.
  • 🧅
Buy the pink onions: Roscoff's AOC pink onion is available nowhere else. Braids make an excellent, edible souvenir — look for them hanging outside shops throughout town.
  • 🥞
Eat a galette: Buckwheat galettes are the Breton staple. Order a complète (ham, egg, cheese) at a crêperie on or near the Vieux Port quay. Wash it down with local cider served in a ceramic bowl.
  • Île de Batz ferry timing: Ferries depart every 30–60 minutes from the Estacade (footbridge) at the Vieux Port. If your call is 7+ hours, the island trip is very doable — allow 3–4 hours round trip.
  • 🌦
Pack layers: Breton weather is famously changeable. Sunshine, rain, and wind can all arrive in one afternoon. A light waterproof jacket is essential year-round.
