Getting Ashore by Tender

  • 1
Two tender landing pointsMost ships tender to Port-Haliguen, a sheltered marina on the eastern side. Some use Port Maria at the southern tip, which is also the ferry terminal for Belle-Île. Check your daily programme for the specific pier.
  • 2
From Port MariaYou're steps from the town center (500 m, 5–7 min walk) and the Grande Plage. The Belle-Île ferry departs from here.
  • 3
From Port-HaliguenA pleasant 1.8 km flat walk or short taxi/bike ride along the coast brings you to the town center and Grande Plage in 20–25 minutes.
  • 4
Getting around the peninsulaQuiberon is flat and bike-friendly — rental shops (Veloc'Ouest, Loisirs Vélo) are near Port Maria. A petit train tourist loop covers the Côte Sauvage (~€8–10). Taxis are limited; book ahead if heading to Carnac.

💡 Pro move: Brittany weather is notoriously changeable. Even in summer, bring a windbreaker for the tender ride and cliff walks.

Insider Tips

  • Tender-only port. No ships dock at a pier — all passengers arrive by tender. Allow 20–30 min for the tender process when returning to ship.
  • 🌊
Never swim on the Côte Sauvage. The western cliffs look beautiful but have deadly undercurrents (lames de fond). Swimming is strictly forbidden. Stick to Grande Plage or Plage de Goviro on the sheltered eastern side.
  • Belle-Île needs time. The ferry is 45–50 min each way. Only attempt it on calls of 8+ hours and confirm tender schedules before buying ferry tickets.
  • 🐟
Buy sardines. La Belle-Iloise near Port Maria sells gourmet canned fish in stunning tins — a legitimate luxury souvenir that travels well in a suitcase.
  • 🌦
Layer up. Brittany weather changes fast. Sunshine, wind, and light rain can all happen in one afternoon. A windbreaker is essential, especially for the tender ride and cliff walks.
