Insider Tips

  • 💰
Cash in CAD: Most places accept credit cards, but small vendors and market stalls in Petit Champlain prefer cash. ATMs are available at the terminal and throughout the Old City.
  • 👟
Wear your best walking shoes: Cobblestones and steep inclines are everywhere between Lower and Upper Town. Heels are a bad idea — leave them on the ship.
  • 🚡
Funicular saves your knees: The Funicular (≈$6 CAD) runs from Petit Champlain to Dufferin Terrace year-round. Breakneck Stairs are free but steep — 59 steps.
  • 🍟
Eat local: Quebec City is the home of poutine (fries + cheese curds + gravy). Chez Ashton and La Banquise-style spots in the Old City are the real deal. Also try tourtière (meat pie) and maple-glazed anything.
  • 🗣️
French first: Open with "Bonjour!" — locals appreciate the effort. English is widely spoken in tourist areas, but Quebec City is proudly Francophone.

Both Uber and Lyft are active in Quebec City (Lyft launched June 2025). Comparable in price to regulated taxis for short city-center trips.

🚍 Public Bus (RTC)
