Insider Tips

  • 💴
Bring Danish Krone cash. The museum charges entry in DKK and local souvenir sellers are cash-only. The supermarket and hotel accept cards but it's smart to have small bills.
  • 🧥
Layer up — weather changes fast. It can be 14°C and sunny in the valley while cold fog rolls in off the glacier. Waterproof outer layer and warm mid-layer are essential.
  • 🦟
Bring insect repellent. In July and August, midges and mosquitoes in the green valleys can be ferocious. A head net is worth packing if you're hiking Blaesedalen.
  • 🐕
Don't approach the sled dogs. Greenlandic huskies are working animals and can be aggressive toward strangers. Watch from a distance — the puppies are adorable but ask the owner first.
  • 📵
Expect to be offline. Mobile data is extremely expensive in Greenland and public Wi-Fi is essentially nonexistent. Download your maps and tell family you'll be unreachable.
